Kohelet's spiritual avodah, or "Services," are a core component of our community, and those of us who aspire to lead are pooling our resources on the web, and this page is one touchstone. There are audio files on this very page, and links to other resources elsewhere. Here are tunes for parts of the liturgy shared among Kohelet members, and other collected material. We also have book and movie lists. More files will be added as they become available. I can work with most formats, so just send them to me and I'll post them. Page numbers are from the Metsudah siddur. If the audio players below don't work, just go to the Kohelet Songs page. |
P'sukei d'Zimra, is the second of the several sections of the davening we do on Shabbes. After a Kaddish segueing from the Morning Blessings and study period, the "Verses of Song" begins with Baruch She'Amar on p. 195. Baruch She'Amar [blessed is the one who spoke] is composed of 87 words, the gematria of the word "paz" [peh, zayin] - refined gold, as noted by many medieval sources. It's earliest appearance is in the ninth century Siddur of Rav Amram Gaon. There are indications that it was read responsively, perhaps like the version here that we do at Rabbi Hoffman's, in the second audio clip. The first clip is a mash-up from about one minute of actual recording I did at a Dances of Universal Peace event. I looped some of the sections and 'extended' it so it's about 3 minutes long. The quality is not so good, but it will serve for our learning purposes. If a few people can do this, others will pick it up. For more about the event, go here: www.bodyastempleproject.com. Yishtabach is the conclusion of the P'sukei d'Zimra, and after a Kaddish, we begin the Kriyat Shema. To hear these files in continuous play mode, go here.
